Life in Hi-5 is ‘bunchkin’
SINGAPORE — If there was one word to describe what being in one of Australia’s biggest children’s entertainment group is like, it would be “bunchkin”.
SINGAPORE — If there was one word to describe what being in one of Australia’s biggest children’s entertainment group is like, it would be “bunchkin”.
At least, that’s according to Hi-5’s Lauren Brant, who was in town together with fellow members Stevie Nicholson, Dayen Zheng, Mary Lascaris and Ainsley Melham, to promote their latest movie, Some Kind Of Wonderful.
The feature is a 60-minute reality TV-style documentary about how Hi-5 recruited Zheng, Lascaris and Melham to join its ranks after previous members Casey Burgess, Tim Maddren and Fely Irvine left the group.
And the group is as lively in person as they are onscreen: They crack jokes throughout the interview, often at Zheng’s expense, and don’t mind interrupting each other as they try to define Brant’s odd descriptor of life in Hi-5.
“What does ‘bunchkin’ mean?” asked Zheng. “It’s not even a real word.”
“Well, I thought of a lollipop, and then I thought of a cupcake, and then I thought, ‘Bunchkin’,” explained Brant.
“It’s the jet lag, it’s not really her talking,” offered Lascaris.
Jet lagged or not, Brant and the others promised a great show for the Singapore premiere of Some Kind Of Wonderful tomorrow, where Hi-5 will make an appearance. The funny thing is, it probably wouldn’t be surprising if kids in the audience described the show as “bunchkin”.
Some Kind Of Wonderful will be shown from June 2 to 9, at selected GV cinemas: GV Plaza Singapura, GV Katong, GV Grand, GV Bishan, GV Tampines and GV City Square. Visit www.gv.com.sg for ticketing details and screening times.
