SINGAPORE – Greetings and salutations, fellow stargazers! This is your Showbiz Sista getting into a hearts-and-flowers mood for Valentine’s Day, which is fast approaching – along with MediaCorp TV Channel 5, which is rolling out a three-part telemovie series called Love Is Love. In three installments called Sunrise, Sunshine and Sunset, it tells the love stories of nine different couples in various stages of life. Six of the stars tell us more!

LOVE IS LOVE: SUNRISE – Fat Hope

Starring: Benjamin Kheng & Jermaine Leong

Synopsis: “A plus-sized 18-year-old girl is all ready to live alone and happy when love comes knocking through the sudden appearance of a handsome boy who teaches her an important lesson in love.”

Benjamin Kheng: “It’s set in a polytechnic and I play one of the cool kids – one of those really pretentious hipsters. She doesn’t move in the same social circles. She’s supposed to be overweight in the show so she’s got a bit of self-confidence issues. Basically, the series is about a bunch of people falling in love, and I’m one of them. (Personally) I do believe in true love and all that Disney sh*t!”

LOVE IS LOVE: SUNRISE – When You Know It

Starring: Shane Pow & Jojo Goh

Synopsis: “A young teenage boy struggling to shoulder the weight of his family meets his first love and learns that sometimes, love is best kept as a memory.”

Shane Pow: “I play this guy who used to be a gymnast. He had to drop out of school because of financial problems and work at a 7-Eleven. My part of the love story is unspoken love – I have a crush on this girl from school, who comes in every day. (Personally) I do think that you need to have money to have love, unless you manage to find someone who can share a loaf of bread with you every single day. But if that happens, you’ll feel the need to work harder because you want to give her a better life.

LOVE IS LOVE: SUNSHINE – I Hear You

Starring: Elfaeza Ul Haq & Shabir

Synopsis: “A troubled pianist meets a blind piano tuner who teaches her about life and love through a common love for music that they both share.”

Elfaeza Ul Haq: “My character wants to join this composing competition, but I have a boyfriend who’s not supportive of what I’m doing. One day, I meet the character played by Shabir, who’s a blind pianist, and we hit it off. We end up playing music together and maybe falling in love – sort of.”

Shabir: “This is the first time I’m playing someone who’s visually impaired. I guess that in itself holds a lot of challenge compared to what I’ve done previously. I’m a huge fan of Al Pacino in Scent Of A Woman. You’ve seen the best – now it’s your turn to do it. Can you even pull it off? The first day of shooting, I had this walking stick, and I experimented by going onto Orchard Road and walking as if I couldn’t see. I told myself, ‘If a couple of people come up and help me, I have passed the test.’ While I was trying to open a door, two women tried to help me. While I was walking down some steps, an old man helped me. Singaporeans are really very considerate. They’re really nice.”

LOVE IS LOVE: SUNSHINE – It’s Me Again

Starring: Felicia Chin & Jason Chan

Synopsis: “A couple divorces and decides to continue living in the same house. As they lead separate lives, they finally realise what being and staying together really mean.”

Felicia Chin: “It’s a fresh take on events that happen after a divorce. It was my first time acting with Jason Chan from TVB. I had seen his shows and he seemed like a very cute bloke and a very sincere guy. So, when I met him, I was a bit taken aback because he’s so humorous and he doesn’t hold his words back at all! On the first day of shooting, he said, ‘You are such a diva. You need someone to help you with your shoes.’ But actually, he has an assistant as well! It’s just his refreshing way of talking – he’s very straightforward. You seldom hear words like that from another actor. It’s very easy to work with an actor with such a personality – it was so easy to talk to him even though I only spent a few days with him. He was so sweet, he even went to Mama Shop to help me advertise and take a photo for Instagram.”

LOVE IS LOVE: SUNSHINE – A Season Of Love

Starring: Nurul Aini & Utt

Synopsis: “An ex-convict struggles to pick up the pieces of his life as he walks through the journey of his past again. When he least expects it, a woman walks into his life and teaches him how to love.”

Nurul Aini: I play a tomboy who works for her father’s moving company, which employs ex-convicts. One of them is Utt, my love interest, who was in prison for attempted murder. I kind of make him realise the past is the past and he needs to move on and let go of it. It’s bittersweet.”
