My awkward moment: Jerry Yeo

SINGAPORE — Jerry Yeo may play Zhou Ying’s creepy stalker in Soup Of Life, but according to him, that wasn’t the awkward bit for him at all, because, as he immediately pointed out, “I’m used to that”.
Instead, his awkward moments came when working with Zhou Ying, his fellow Star Search 2007 contestant. “I realised that sometimes your friend might have different expectations when working with you,” he said. “Zhou Ying is an actress with quite high expectations for herself — as well as those who work with her. I didn’t see that coming ... I was caught off-guard. I didn’t expect some things were necessary. But I was happy to help.
“Sometimes, it’s subjective. Let’s say the shot is of my face — if you were to stand opposite me and make faces, I would prefer you not to be there. Some actors prefer the other party to be there. So, it’s just different.”
Hmm, we’ll have to leave that to conjecture. But things might really get awkward if Yeo has to address his co-stars off-set. “When I have to work with new actors or actresses ... for example, one of the Malaysian actors, his character’s name in the show is Lei Gong, but I don’t know his real name!
“If they are more senior than me, I usually don’t take the initiative to talk to them. I will just say, ‘Hi’ and be well-mannered, but I don’t take initiative to warm things up between us. Maybe it’s culture — I always let those who are more senior than me speak. So, if they don’t speak, then I don’t speak, either. When we have to start acting immediately ... that is very tough and very awkward.”
