SINGAPORE — MediaCorp’s veteran actors got more than they bargained for when they were cast in the Channel 8 drama Super Senior, which tells the comical, touching and inspiring story of a band of senior citizens who aspire to live their lives to the fullest — by taking up diving, rock climbing and street dancing, amongst other things.

Super Senior stars Wang Yu Qing, Xiang Yun, Hong Hui Fang, Jin Yin Ji, Richard Low and Chen Shu Cheng, along with Yao Wen Long, Rayson Tan, Jayley Woo and Aloysius Pang.

“I have never worn such loud clothes in my life,” quipped Wang.

That was far from the biggest way in which the veteran actors went out of their comfort zones. Xiang Yun, who couldn’t swim, had to take swimming lessons before she could take up diving. “I never imagined I would get the opportunity to wear a diving suit and go into the water,” she said. “In my whole acting career, this is the show in which I’ve learnt the most.”

It’s all for a good cause: “This show reminds older people that if there’s anything they haven’t ticked off their bucket list, they should go and do it,” said Jin Yin Ji.

Agreed Hong Hui Fang: “You can do anything young people do as long as you keep your body healthy and your mind well-adjusted.”

Catch Super Senior starting June 18, weekdays at 9pm on MediaCorp TV Channel 8.
