SINGAPORE — If you are a recreational user, you do not need a permit if your unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) or drone weighs less than 7kg.
However, rules governing the flying of unmanned aircraft state that operators cannot fly over or within areas that are restricted, prohibited or deemed dangerous. They also cannot fly within 5km of an aerodrome or military airbase, regardless of the drone’s operating height. They also cannot be flown higher than 200 feet, or around 61m, above mean sea level.
So, where can one go to fly a drone? The rule of thumb is to fly in large, open spaces without trees. Also, stay clear of densely-populated areas or areas with high-rise buildings. Drones are also not allowed to be flown in the parks and nature reserves that NParks oversees.
Here are some areas where you can satisfy your craving to fly drones:
Within private compounds, for example your own garden within a private housing area
Marina South and Marina East coastal area
The field at Old Holland Road
The field along Tuas South Avenue 1
School fields
Indoor compounds
