SINGAPORE — More rooms, more amenities, more style. These are some of the guests can expect at Downtown East’s new D’Resort, which was launched today (July 1) following a two-year renovation period.
Designed by DP Architects, the new resort, which is located at the former Escape Theme Park, boasts a sleek new look. It comprises 387 rooms divided into nine room types and spread over two blocks: The resort block features 117 Rainforest rooms, including 12 themed rooms and two suites, while the chalet block features 270 rooms with beach, mangrove and park views.
“We are offering more choices to our members and guests,” said Lim Eng Lee, chief operating officer of NTUC Club. “There are room types for everyone, from families to youths to couples.”
As Singapore’s first nature-inspired resort, there was an effort to bring the “outdoors in”, said Lim. This was done through design elements such as incorporating photographs of the surrounding Pasir Ris Park, mangrove and beach to the rooms’ walls, which were taken by photographers from NTUC Club’s communities nEbO and U Live. Activities such as nature trails and mangrove tours for resort guests will also be conducted by U Live Park ambassadors.
D’Resort will likewise be integrated into the nearby Wild Wild Wet water park, which is currently being expanded as part of the second phase of the S$200 million Refreshing Downtown East project. It is set to open by the second half of next year. Meanwhile, the third phase of the project, which will bolster the area’s F&B and retail scene, is expected to be completed by the second half of 2017.
Lim said the entire project should be finished by 2018, in time for Downtown East’s 30th anniversary. It first opened in 1988 as NTUS Pasir Ris Resort.
“Singapore’s workforce has evolved over the years and we have become a truly global city. I am heartened that NTUC Club strives to ensure they continue to meet our workers’ expectations in their lifestyle facilities and offerings,” said Zainal Sapari, Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and NTUC assistant secretary-general, who was present to welcome the resort’s first guests.
Room rates currently range from S$118 for the Park View Chalet rooms (if you’re an NTUC member) to S$378 for a Rainforest Premier Suite.
