SINGAPORE — A Tiktok video showing photos of a group of migrant workers enjoying a day out at the Museum of Ice Cream has melted the hearts of online users.
In a post last Saturday (July 6), a TikTok account of Westlite Mandai workers' dormitory shared pictures of the workers' visit to the pink-themed building located close to the Dempsey Village fine-dining enclave.
The workers were seen posing playfully in the museum's Rainbow Tunnel.
They also tried different activities in the museum such as using magnetic letters to write their names on the wall and chilling at a "bouncy castle".
One amusing photo showed a worker being buried in a pit of oversized ice-cream "sprinkles".
People commented that they found the lighthearted and fun pictures heartwarming and adorable, with at least one saying that there should be more of such outings for these workers.
One TikTok user wrote: "This is honestly so pure and genuine. Cute."
Another said: "This is so cute, they looked like they’re having so much fun."
The TikTok video has been viewed more than 256,600 times and has received 28,500 likes as of Monday afternoon.
The Museum of Ice Cream, which opened in Singapore in 2021, is a United States-based attraction. The price of a general admission ticket here starts from S$35.
Centurion Corporation, which manages workers' dormitories including Westlite Mandai, told TODAY that the outing for the workers was organised on April 28, a Sunday, as a gesture of appreciation for its dormitory residents in conjunction with Labour Day, which was on May 1.
"This is a place which we feel migrant workers would not have gone to on their own (due to the entrance fees)," the company said.
"Our migrant workers work under harsh weather conditions and during the month of April, Singapore was experiencing a heatwave, so we thought this place is good for them to enjoy their day somewhere cool and enjoy unlimited servings of ice cream."
Picked on a first-come-first-served basis, a total of 80 migrant workers went on the trip. There are more than 6,000 residents at Westlite Mandai dormitory.

Towards the end of the outing to the museum, lunch was provided for the workers before they headed back to the dormitory.
The company said that one of the dormitory residents, Mr Ramadurai Ramki, commented that he had the most fun with the interactive displays.
The 28-year-old from India, who said that he usually spends his time off resting in his dormitory room or going to Tekka Market in Little India to meet friends, added: "I get to mingle with other residents and experience things that I wouldn’t be able to back home."
The outing was part of Westlite Mandai's Resi-life programme, where weekly activities are organised for its residents such as sports tournaments, mental wellness programmes and activities that allow them to engage with the wider community.
