SINGAPORE — A person died on Friday (Jan 7) after a car fire incident at a car park beside the Geylang Neighbourhood Police Centre.

In response to TODAY’s queries, the police said they responded to a case where a car had caught fire at the car park of Block 42 Cassia Crescent at about 3pm that day.

“A person was pronounced dead at scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force paramedic,” said the police.

The authorities did not indicate the gender or age of the victim.

The police said that they do not suspect foul play based on preliminary investigations.

The Straits Times (ST) reported that a male driver was trapped in a white Mazda 3 after colliding into a parked car at the car park, which is a five-minute walk from the popular Old Airport Road Food Centre.

ST said that residents in the area first noticed the accident after smoke filled the air, before the car later burst into flames.

One resident told the daily broadsheet that a police officer had attempted to pull the driver out of the car but to no avail.

It added that the car was rented from a rental company on e-commerce platform Carousell.

A video clip on social media of the incident shows a white car ablaze while some men tried to put out the flames with a water hose.

Police investigations are ongoing.
