100m underground pedestrian link between City Hall MRT Station and Funan mall opens

SINGAPORE — An underground pedestrian link between City Hall MRT Station and Funan mall will open sometime this month, real estate group CapitaLand said on Monday (Dec 20) without specifying the exact date.

SINGAPORE — An underground pedestrian link between City Hall MRT Station and Funan mall was opened on Tuesday (Dec 21), Funan said in a statement.

The link that is about 100m in length under North Bridge Road connects the basement level two of Funan mall directly with the MRT station, as well as to various destinations in the Civic District, including Raffles City Singapore and Saint Andrew’s Cathedral.

The premises of Funan mall, which also comprise office towers and a serviced apartment, is owned by CapitaLand.

The building of the underground link was first announced in 2017.

The Straits Times reported then that the linkway would also extend to The Adelphi, a shopping centre opposite Funan, with provisions for future connections to neighbouring buildings such as Peninsula Plaza and St Andrew’s Cathedral.

In a press release on Monday, CapitaLand said that Funan will host Singapore Art Week from Jan 14 to Feb 13 next year, with artworks to be showcased along the pedestrian link as well.

In its statement on Tuesday, Funan added that it intends for the link to serve as a platform for the arts community to showcase their creative works in innovative formats such as digital art or multimedia.
