SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Thursday (April 23) announced 1,037 new cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of infections here to 11,178.

This is the fourth day in a row that the number of daily infections was more than 1,000.

In its media statement, MOH also highlighted six new clusters of infections: Blue Stars Dormitory (3 Kian Teck Lane), Hulett Dormitory (20 Senoko Drive), Seatown Dormitory (69H Tuas South Avenue 1), Woodlands Dormitory (27 Woodlands Sector 1), 12 Loyang Drive, and 59 Sungei Kadut Loop.

There were no new imported cases of Covid-19 on Thursday.

Of the 25 cases of Covid-19 in the community, 22 are Singaporeans or permanent residents and three are work pass holders.

“The number of new cases in the community has decreased, from an average of 34 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 25 per day in the past week,” MOH said.

It added that the number of unlinked cases in the community has decreased slightly, from an average of 20 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 18 per day in the past week.

Of the cases involving foreign workers here, MOH said that 30 infections were linked to those residing outside the dormitories.

“The number of new cases amongst work permit holders residing outside dormitories has continued to increase, from an average of 16 cases per day in the week before, to an average of 30 per day in the past week,” MOH said.

The remaining 982 confirmed cases on Thursday were linked to foreign workers residing in the dormitories.

“The main increase today continues to be for work permit holders residing in dormitories, where we are picking up many more cases because of extensive testing,” MOH said, adding that most of these cases have a mild illness and are being monitored in the community isolation facilities or general ward of the hospitals.

None of them is in the intensive care unit.

UPDATE ON THE CONFIRMED CASES

In all, MOH said that 924 patients have fully recovered from the Covid-19 infection and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, including the 36 discharged on Thursday.

There are currently 1,368 confirmed cases who are still in hospital. Of these, most are in stable condition or improving.

Twenty-six patients are in critical condition under intensive care.

MOH said that 8,874 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

Twelve patients have died from complications due to Covid-19 infections.

The health ministry also identified the 46-year-old male Indian national who died on Thursday morning as Case 8190.

He was confirmed to have Covid-19 infection on April 19, and had been warded at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, MOH said.
