SINGAPORE — Another 11 dormitory residents from Westlite Woodlands have tested positive for Covid-19, including 10 who have recovered from the disease, the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said in a statement late on Wednesday (April 21).

This comes after a 35-year-old Bangladeshi migrant worker staying at the dormitory tested positive on Monday as part of rostered routine testing.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) had said on Tuesday that the worker, a work permit holder who works as a construction supervisor at Prosper Environmental & Engineering, was a locally transmitted infection with no links to previous cases.

He had already completed his vaccination on April 13.

After the authorities isolated and quarantined his close contacts at the dormitory and workplace, one of his roommates was found to be positive at a dedicated quarantine facility.

As a precautionary measure, Covid-19 tests were conducted on all residents at the dormitory.

“To date, 10 recovered workers were found to be Covid-19 positive," MOM said. "These cases were immediately isolated and conveyed to the National Centre for Infectious Diseases to investigate for possible re-infection.

“MOM and MOH are currently investigating the cases and more information will be shared in due course.”

TODAY has sought comment from the dormitory’s operators.

In a circular written by Westlite Woodlands Dormitory to its clients that was seen by TODAY, the 11 residents were from the same block and were confirmed to have tested positive at 9am on Wednesday.

The results came from 568 pre-emptive tests carried out the day before for residents in the block.

“They are being sent to the hospital/community care facility and their employers have been informed”, the circular dated Wednesday read.

It also stated that all 1,146 residents from the block will be moved to a government quarantine facility on Thursday and they will be quarantined for 14 days.
