3 people taken to hospital after 9 heavy vehicles collide on AYE
SINGAPORE — Three people were taken to hospital on Thursday (July 7) morning after nine heavy vehicles collided on the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) towards Tuas before the Jurong Port exit.
In response to TODAY’s queries, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and the police said that they were alerted to the traffic accident at about 9.25am.
SCDF personnel found a 62-year-old lorry driver trapped in the seat and freed the person with hydraulic rescue equipment.
The accident involved two buses, three lorries and four trailers, the police said.
The lorry driver as well as two bus passengers aged 30 and 48 were conscious when taken to hospital.
It was not immediately clear what the extent of their injuries were.
Rescuers treated two other people for minor injuries but they refused to be taken to hospital, SCDF said.
Police investigations are underway.
In a one-and-a-half-minute video that has made its rounds on social media, a number of heavy vehicles — which include a public bus with the SBS Transit decal, an NTUC FairPrice goods vehicle as well as what appears to be a shuttle bus — can be seen involved in the collision.
Some of the vehicles were damaged and still stuck onto one another.
The NTUC FairPrice goods vehicle is seen directly behind the public bus. Behind the bus was a refrigerated truck and what appears to be goods strewn across the road.
The front of the refrigerated truck appears to be badly damaged with its windscreen shattered and parts of the vehicle folding in on itself.
Towards the end of the collision chain, a truck from logistic firm Kleio is also seen involved in the accident.
