SINGAPORE — A 58-year-old woman who works at Bishan MRT Station is among the new Covid-19 cases reported on Monday (May 18).

She had symptoms of the respiratory disease on May 14 and had gone to work at the MRT station before she was diagnosed on May 17.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) did not elaborate on her job scope there.

The other case among the wider community is a 50-year-old man linked to a cluster at 1020 Tai Seng Avenue. He reported having symptoms on May 13 and tested positive on May 17.

MOH said in its daily update on new cases that there were 305 more infected people on Monday. This was the lowest daily increase since April 12, when there were 233 cases.

The total number of infections here is now 28,343.

MOH said: “The lower number of cases today is partly due to fewer tests being processed, as one testing laboratory is reviewing its processes following an earlier apparatus calibration issue and will need time to ramp up its testing capacity."

The ministry also identified four new clusters of infections. They are located at 2 Kampong Ampat near the MacPherson estate, 43 Tuas View Close, 117 Tuas View Walk 1 and 7 Woodlands Industrial Park E1.

The majority of the new cases — 303 — were linked to foreign workers living in dormitories.

MOH said that it continues to pick up many more cases among work permit holders residing in dormitories, including in factory-converted dormitories, because of extensive testing in these premises as part of its process to verify and test the status of all workers.

There were no imported cases on Monday.

Separately, MOH said that it has been monitoring existing clusters for any further transmission.

“As there have been no more cases linked to ABC Hostel (3 Jalan Kubor off North Bridge Road) for the past two incubation periods, the cluster has now been closed,” it said.

UPDATE ON THE REMAINING CASES

In all, 9,835 people have fully recovered from Covid-19 and have been discharged from hospitals or community care facilities, including the 495 discharged on Monday.

There are still 1,036 patients in hospitals. Of these, most are stable or improving, and 12 are in critical condition under intensive care.

MOH said that 17,450 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

Twenty-two people have died from complications due to Covid-19.
