SINGAPORE — Singapore on Sunday (Oct 31) logged 3,163 new cases of Covid-19 and 13 more deaths due to complications from the disease.

In its nightly update on the coronavirus situation here, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said that there were 69 patients who were unstable and under close monitoring in intensive care units (ICUs) to prevent further deterioration, the same figure as was reported on Saturday.

In addition, there were 61 patients who were critically ill and intubated in ICUs, one more than on Saturday.

The number of patients who require oxygen support went up from 267 on Saturday to 284 on Sunday.

In total, there are 382 ICU beds, of which 261 are now occupied — 130 by Covid-19 patients.

This means that the ICU utilisation rate is now 68.3 per cent, slightly up from the 68.1 per cent reported the day before.

Among the new infections recorded on Sunday, there were 2,745 in the community, 414 among migrant worker dormitory residents and four imported ones.

Among the community cases are 531 seniors who are aged 60 and above, said MOH.

The ratio of community cases for the past week over the week before is 1.12, down from 1.14 reported the day before.

The 13 who died were aged between 57 and 89.

All of them had various underlying medical conditions, except for two unvaccinated or partially vaccinated individuals, the ministry said without giving more details.

In total, 407 people here have died of Covid-19 complications, including 306 this month alone.

Singapore has registered a total of 198,374 coronavirus cases since the start of the pandemic last year.

On Sunday, 3,759 cases were discharged, of whom 528 are seniors aged 60 and above.

There are still, however, 1,672 patients who remain warded in hospitals, 45 more than on Saturday.

Over the last 28 days, 98.7 per cent of local infected cases were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms.

During the same period:

  • 0.8 per cent required oxygen supplementation in the general ward

  • 0.2 per cent were unstable and under close monitoring in the ICU to prevent further deterioration

  • 0.1 per cent had been critically ill and intubated in the ICU

Among large clusters that are being closely monitored by the ministry, four had new cases, MOH said. A total of 10 new infections were added to these four clusters.

VACCINATION

As of Oct 30, 84 per cent of the population have been fully vaccinated, and 85 per cent have received at least one dose of the vaccine.

In addition, 15 per cent of the population have received their booster shots.

MOH said that seniors 60 years old and above, especially if unvaccinated, continue to be more adversely affected by Covid-19.

Over the past seven days, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who are critically ill in the ICU are at 0.5 and 4.5 per 100,000 population respectively.

Over the same period, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who died are 0.1 and 0.9 per 100,000 population respectively.

Among seniors aged 60 and above, the number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated cases who are critically ill in the ICU are two and 35.8 respectively.

The number of fully vaccinated and non-fully vaccinated seniors who died are 0.4 and 8.7 respectively.
