SINGAPORE — Singapore has confirmed 528 new cases of Covid-19, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said in a press release on Tuesday (April 28).

This brings the total number of cases here to 14,951.

MOH highlighted four new clusters of infections. They are:

  • Two construction sites in Kranji, at 33 Sungei Kadut Loop and 23H Sungei Kadut Street 1

  • Wah Loon Building at 10 Tagore Drive

  • Tuas Cove Industrial Centre at 51H Tuas South Ave 1

Of the 528 new cases, 10 were cases in the community, with seven being Singaporeans or permanent residents, two being work pass holders and one who is on a visitor pass.

The number of new cases in the community has gone down, the ministry said, from an average of 28 cases a day in the week before, to an average of 17 a day in the past week.

The number of cases in the community with no known sources of infection has also dropped, from an average of 18 cases a day in the week before, to an average of 10 a day in the past week.

“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” it said.

The bulk of the new cases, 511 of them, are linked to migrant workers residing in dormitories. MOH said that this is because of the extensive testing it does on this group. Most of them have a mild illness and are being monitored in the community isolation facilities or general ward of hospitals. None of them are under intensive care.

The rest of the seven new cases are linked to workers not staying at dormitories.

There were no imported cases on Tuesday.

PATIENT FROM PUBLIC HEALTHCARE SECTOR

MOH also reported that there is a case from the public healthcare sector, identified as Case 14693.

Case 14693 is a 24-year-old male permanent resident who has no recent travel history to affected countries or regions. He first reported an onset of symptoms on April 27 and tested positive on the same day.

He is warded at Changi General Hospital, MOH said, adding that the man is employed as a nurse there but had not gone to work since he developed symptoms.

UPDATE ON CONFIRMED CASES

In all, MOH said that 1,128 have fully recovered from the Covid-19 and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, including the 33 on Tuesday.

There are now 1,689 confirmed cases who are still in hospital.

Of these, most are stable or improving, and 21 are in critical condition under intensive care.

MOH said that 12,120 people are isolated and cared for at community facilities. These are those who have mild symptoms, or are clinically well but still test positive for Covid-19.

Fourteen people here have died from complications due to Covid-19.
