73-year-old man killed in North Bridge Road accident, 55-year-old taxi driver arrested

SINGAPORE — The police have arrested a taxi driver for careless driving following a fatal accident along North Bridge Road in the wee hours of Tuesday (March 30).

The police said that at 12.41am, they were alerted to an accident involving a taxi and a pedestrian along North Bridge Road towards South Bridge Road.

SINGAPORE — The police have arrested a taxi driver for careless driving following a fatal accident along North Bridge Road in the wee hours of Tuesday (March 30).

The police said that at 12.41am, they were alerted to an accident involving a taxi and a pedestrian along North Bridge Road towards South Bridge Road.

“The 73-year-old male pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene by a Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) paramedic. A 55-year-old male taxi driver was arrested for careless driving causing death,” they said.

SCDF said that it was alerted to a road traffic accident along North Bridge Road on Tuesday at about 12.40am and a person was pronounced dead on scene by its paramedic.

The police said that investigations are ongoing.

Pictures circulating on social media showed a ComfortDelGro taxi next to a police tent.

In response to queries from TODAY, ComfortDelGro said that it had terminated the driver’s relief driving arrangement “with immediate effect” and it was assisting the police in their investigations.

Ms Tammy Tan, the group chief corporate communications officer of ComfortDelGro Corporation, said: “We are deeply saddened that this has happened and have reached out to the deceased’s next-of-kin to convey our condolences and to assist them during this extremely difficult period.”
