SINGAPORE — Singapore confirmed 87 new cases of Covid-19 infection on Sunday (Aug 23), including 13 that are imported and one in the community.

The 13 imported cases had all been placed on stay-home notice upon arrival in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said.

Among them, 11 had entered Singapore on Aug 11.

They comprise:

  • Five permanent residents who returned to Singapore from India.

  • Two dependant’s pass and long-term visit pass holders who arrived from India and the Philippines.

  • Two work permit holders who arrived from the Philippines.

  • Two student’s pass holders who arrived from India.

The remaining two are short-term visit pass holders who were allowed entry into Singapore as one has been seeking medical treatment in Singapore, while the other is the parent and caregiver, MOH said. They arrived from Bangladesh on Aug 21.

The sole community case is a 38-year-old Vietnamese man who holds a work pass. An unlinked case, he was tested for Covid-19 as he had acute respiratory infection.

The total number of cases in Singapore now stands at 56,353.

MOH said that overall, the number of new cases in the community has remained stable at an average of two cases per day in the past two weeks.

The number of unlinked cases in the community has also remained stable at an average of one case per day in the past fortnight.

Sunday saw 244 more cases of Covid-19 infection discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, bringing the tally of those who have fully recovered to 54,164.

MOH said there are 76 confirmed cases who are still in hospital but none is in the intensive care unit.

A total of 2,086 are isolated and cared for at community facilities.

Twenty-seven have died from complications due to Covid-19 infection.
