SINGAPORE — The Police are investigating another Telegram chat group in which members allegedly shared obscene photos of girls and women without their consent.

This comes just a week after four men were charged in court last Tuesday (Oct 15) for running a similar Telegram chat group, called “SG Nasi Lemak”, which had over 40,000 members.

This latest chat group to be investigated is called “SharingIsCaring”.

According to an AsiaOne report published last week, the group, which was private and could only be joined by invitation from an existing member, had over 100 members.

At the time of the report, the group had been around for less than a month and members had already shared some 5,000 photos and videos.

The group can no longer be found on Telegram.

Aside from lewd photos, the group members also swapped pictures of unsuspecting schoolgirls on public transport, AsiaOne reported.

The police told TODAY in a statement on Monday (Oct 21) that they are aware of the group and are looking into the matter.

The police said that the circulation of obscene materials is an offence under Section 292 of the Penal Code.

“Members of the public are advised not to join any online platform that circulates obscene materials and illicit chat groups. The police take a serious view of anyone involved in criminal activities and will continue to take tough enforcement actions against those breaking the law,” they said.

Anyone who transmits by electronic means any obscene materials may be liable to a jail term of up to three months, a fine, or both.

Anyone with information on the chat group is requested to call the police hotline at 1800-255-0000 or submit information online via http://www.police.gov.sg/iwitness. All information will be kept strictly confidential.
