SINGAPORE — United States Vice President Joe Biden, who is in Singapore for an official visit from July 25 to 27, started his day at the Singapore Botanic Gardens on this morning (July 26).

An orchid hybrid, “Dendrobium Joe and Jill Biden”, was named in honour of Mr Biden and his wife, Dr Jill Biden.

Mr Biden also paid a visit to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, President Tony Tan Keng Yam and former Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew in the Istana, and also made an impromptu stop at Adam Road Hawker Centre.

Meanwhile, Dr Jill Biden was a special guest at the National Library today.

Dr Biden made time to visit My Tree House — a “green” library where children learn about caring for the environment, and also read a book to some 60 primary school children from five schools in Singapore.

Accompanied by her daughter, Dr Biden also viewed a collection of rare books and publications.

Tomorrow, Mr Biden is set to visit the Pratt & Whitney aircraft engine overhaul facility in Singapore.

He will also visit the US Littoral Combat Ship, the USS Freedom, at Changi Naval Base. CHANNEL NEWSASIA
