SINGAPORE — Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong will deliver Singapore’s 2023 Budget statement in Parliament on Feb 14, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said on Thursday (Dec 29).

The Budget statement by Mr Wong, who is also Finance Minister, will be covered live on television and radio. It is Mr Wong's second Budget.

A link to a live webcast of the delivery of the Budget statement for the 2023 financial year will be available on the Singapore Budget website.

For real-time updates of key Budget announcements, the public may follow MOF’s Facebook page and Twitter account.

In response to TODAY's queries, economist Song Seng Wun from CIMB bank said that the 2023 Budget statement will represent a return to almost a "normal budget year", along the lines of those before the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said that Budget preparations for the past two years were, to some extent, "hijacked" by the pandemic as government intervention was needed to help support the economy.

Now, with the pandemic easing, Mr Song said that the country may return to focusing on Singapore's continued relevance as a city-state for regional and global businesses.

However, high levels of inflation both here and abroad — brought about by factors such as the Russia-Ukraine war, supply chain problems and high global geopolitical risks — remain a challenge.

"With inflation likely to stay elevated, although we have passed the peak, I think we could be seeing more support measures being rolled out," he added.

The full Budget statement will be published on the Singapore Budget website after its delivery on Feb 14.
