SINGAPORE — About 630 children with special needs from low income families could benefit from a bursary that helps defray their costly special transport arrangements to school.
Under the Temasek Cares — Early Intervention Programme for Infants and Children (EIPIC) Bursary, families who are successful in their application can receive up to S$100 each month for their child’s transport to the EIPIC centres.
The S$756,000, two-year bursary was unveiled by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong at the opening ceremony of the Thye Hua Kwan (THK) EIPIC Centre @ Ang Mo Kio today (Jan 17).
EIPIC provides therapy and educational support services for children up to six years old diagnosed with a special need that affects his or her development.
So far, 106 low-income families have tapped on the bursary since it was opened for applications last April.
Families can apply for the bursary any time through the EIPIC centres.
The bursary will end in March next year.
The new THK EIPIC centre at Block 313 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3 will serve up to 150 students living in the central area.
Presently, there are 17 EIPIC centres serving over 2,000 children with special needs in Singapore.
