Three Indian nationals who had been charged with rioting in Little India on Dec 8 had their charges withdrawn yesterday.
They have been issued with formal police advisories and “will be allowed to stay on in Singapore and continue with their employment, on condition of continued good behaviour”, said the police.
Meanwhile, the 25 other men who had been charged for their involvement in the riot were also granted bail yesterday, despite arguments from the prosecution.
Deputy Public Prosecutor John Lu argued that these men face serious charges which carry severe punishments, and they also pose a flight risk as they have no roots in Singapore.
But District Judge Lim Tse Haw dismissed the argument as irrelevant. He set bail at S$20,000 for each of the accused and ordered them to report to the authorities every week.
Their cases will be heard again on Friday. CLAIRE HUANG
