SINGAPORE — Six bus passengers aged three to 73, as well as a 72-year-old pedestrian, were taken to hospital after an accident along Marine Parade Road over the weekend.
A 61-year-old male bus passenger suffered minor injuries and he refused to be taken to hospital, the police said.
In reply to queries from TODAY on Monday (Dec 12), the police said that they were alerted to the accident on Dec 10 afternoon involving two buses, a car and a pedestrian along Marine Parade Road towards Bedok South Avenue 1.
The two buses, services 48 and 196, were operated by public transport operator SBS Transit.
Mrs Grace Wu, vice-president (special grade) of customer experience and communications from SBS Transit, told TODAY that a pedestrian and several passengers on the two buses were injured.
Both bus drivers quickly attended to them and medical assistance was deployed, she said.
Responding to queries from TODAY on Tuesday, SBS Transit claimed that the accident was caused by the pedestrian who stepped suddenly in front of the bus.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said that four people were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital, two to Changi General Hospital, and one to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
A video posted on the Singapore Incidents Instagram account on Dec 11 showed the aftermath of the accident, with bus service 196 having collided into the back of the other in front of a bus-stop.
There is a crowd of people at the bus-stop and several emergency vehicles along the lane.
Ms Wu from SBS Transit said: “We have reached out to four of the passengers and are still trying to get in touch with the others to extend our care and concern and render assistance if required.”
The company is assisting the police with ongoing investigations.
