Chinese New Year flyer offering FairPrice vouchers 'not created or endorsed' by supermarket

SINGAPORE — A Chinese New Year flyer featuring an NTUC FairPrice voucher giveaway is not created or endorsed by FairPrice, the supermarket chain said on Monday (Jan 24).

The flyer prompts recipients to scan a QR code to receive a S$20 FairPrice voucher. The link leads to an online financial survey.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the supermarket chain said that it had been informed of a printed flyer of "unknown origin", adding that it was not running any promotion that requires users to complete a survey to obtain gift vouchers.

“We would like to clarify that this flyer and its attached promotion is neither created nor endorsed by FairPrice,” the post read.

A series of high-profile scams have made headlines in recent weeks, with organisations stepping up efforts to protect their customers.

Last week, OCBC bank outlined various security measures it is implementing in the wake of an SMS phishing scam that saw at least 469 customers losing a total of at least S$8.5 million.

The Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore has also warned the public to ignore an email message by senders impersonating the Commissioner of Inland Revenue Ng Wai Choong.

FairPrice itself frequently issues alerts on its Facebook page, informing its customers of unendorsed campaigns and giveaways that could potentially be scams.

In its post on Monday, FairPrice urged the public to verify any information received online before sharing their personal data.

They can do this by emailing the chain at general.feedback [at] fairprice.com.sg, calling its customer service hotline at 6380 5858 or submitting a webform enquiry at fairprice.com.sg/help/feedback-general.
