SINGAPORE — MediaCorp’s Channel NewsAsia (CNA) will not only have a new state-of-the-art city studio on Monday, but it will also offer a revamped slate of programmes and 24-hour broadcast of “live” news.

CNA’s Marina Bay Studio is located at the DBS building in the Marina Bay Financial Centre.

Ms Debra Soon, CNA’s Managing Director, said the channel is well-positioned “to deliver what we’ve been doing daily since 1999”, as well as “help audiences around the world better understand Asia”.

“We have made substantial investments to provide more business content about Asia, from Asia,” she said.

“We intend to increase our lead in covering South-east Asia better than other broadcasters operating here, and we will cover South Asia better. This is all part of the drive to deliver insightful documentaries and programmes ... 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.”

CNA’s expansion plan includes significant boosts to the line-up of programmes. Business news, for example, will be more than doubled during prime time, and there will be seven new programmes, including Business Central, featuring key stories from the financial hubs around the world; Asia Connect, a lunchtime show focusing on regional daily market movements; and News Pulse, from midnight to 6am, which will track world developments overnight for Asia.

CNA will also increase its current affairs programmes focused on Asia. New shows include Power List Asia, which features the movers and shakers of Asian success stories; Extraordinary Asians, which profiles the exceptional Asians who inspire the community; and Boomtown Asia, which previews what Asian cities could become in the future.

The channel will also set up new bureaus and facilities across the region, even as the channel continues to enhance its network of correspondents in Asia.

It will also continue to improve its marketing initiatives in the region, such as the partnership for the CEO World Forum held in Ho Chi Minh City earlier this month, and the Luminary Awards Forum in Singapore to be held at end-March.

Ms Han Chuan Quee, MediaCorp’s Vice-President of Corporate Services, said: “The channel is now beamed to 36 million households and hotel rooms in 24 territories. We have plans to put the channel on all platforms, including streaming ‘live’ on Livestation.com and going into a strategic partnership with YouTube, in order to reach even more viewers.”
