SINGAPORE — The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) used a new anti-drug tool — saliva test kits — during raids at nightspots in Orchard Road and Jalan Sultan on Friday (March 31) night.

About 240 people were checked and those suspected to have consumed drugs were tested with saliva test kits.

Each kit consists of a detachable sample collector that is used for swabbing.

It takes an average of 10 minutes to complete the test.

"Today, saliva (test kits) were introduced into CNB’s suite of tools to increase testing capacity. Officers can now choose to deploy (the kits) on the spot to supplement other factors before deciding (whether or not) to arrest a person," said Superintendent Lim Sze Yuk, Commanding Officer of Enforcement G Division.

During the raids, a 43-year-old Singaporean man was arrested for suspected drug-related offences and a 31-year-old man was nabbed on suspicion of being a member of an unlawful society.
