SINGAPORE — A couple from Singapore planned a surprise reunion for their Indonesian domestic helper with her family after spending three years apart from them while working in Singapore.
Without her knowledge, the Singaporean family flew their helper's daughter, sister and sister's family to Bali to join them on their family trip there.
In an emotional video posted on TikTok on Saturday (Oct 15), the helper Zulae seemed to remain oblivious about the reunion until they arrived at the resort.
In the video, a young girl — who seems to be Zulae's daughter — walks towards her and a tearful reunion ensues.
Overwhelmed by emotions, the 39-year-old stood up and hugged the young girl. Her sister, who is seen carrying a toddler in her arms, appears at the same time too.
Zulae is seen embracing her sister and crying with joy before turning to embrace her female employer who was also teary-eyed.
According to the video, Zulae and her family joined her employer throughout the holiday, sightseeing and taking photos together.
The video, posted by a TikTok user who goes by the name Theinesh Pac, gained 110,600 views and 10,500 likes within a day.
“She’s been so good to us and our kids so we decided to surprise her on our Bali trip and flew her sister’s family and daughter in to join us,” wrote Mr Pac in his video.
According to his captions, Zulae joined the family in 2019 and has been helping with the caregiving of his kids for about three years.
An outpouring of support was given to the couple behind the heartwarming video.
“This is what it means to treat our helpers right! It’s so important that we never ever forget that they are human too!”, one user opined.
Another user who claims to be a helper thanked the couple for their kind act: “Thank you to be (for being) so kind to your helper. I’m (a) helper too, so touching with this video. Once again thanks ma’am.”
Others were moved to tears by the video: “Do I really need to be crying on my dinner break at work right now? Yes. Yes I do.”
According to AsiaOne, Zulae is a single mother who is working to support her 11-year-old daughter in Semarang, Indonesia.
In April, a Singaporean woman had a tearful reunion with her former domestic helper on her wedding day. The video shared on TikTok revealed that her brother had planned the surprise and that the 72-year-old helper had worked for the family for 27 years.
