SINGAPORE— A 47-year-old woman, her 48-year-old husband and their 18-year-old son were arrested for suspected drug-related offences on Wednesday (Jan 11), the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said on Friday.

A total of 88 suspected drug offenders were arrested in islandwide raids conducted from Jan 9 to 13, they added.

Two brothers were also arrested over such matters this week. On Tuesday, the CNB arrested the Singaporean pair, aged 17 and 25, for suspected drug activities. They are not included in the 88 arrests announced by the CNB on Friday.

The drugs seized from the brothers were worth S$124,000, and preliminary investigations revealed that the controlled drugs seized could have been linked to drug transactions conducted on Telegram.

In the islandwide operation, the CNB seized drugs with an estimated street value of more than S$56,000.

In total, about 37g of heroin, 204g of "Ice", 39g of cannabis, 97g of ketamine, 53 Ecstasy tablets, 224g of drink sachets believed to contain methylenedioxymethamphetamine, nine Erimin-5 tablets and two bottles of liquid suspected to contain gamma-hydroxybutyrate were seized.

The CNB said that its officers arrested a 46-year-old man and 47-year-old woman in a commercial building in the vicinity of Jalan Bukit Merah for suspected drug-related offences on Jan 11.

Six straws containing about 3g of heroin and various drug paraphernalia were recovered from the man.

The CNB then said that they raided the woman’s residence on the same day and arrested her 48-year-old husband, their 18-year-old son and a 50-year-old man within the unit.

A total of about 5g of heroin, 28g of cannabis, a small amount of ‘Ice’ and various drug paraphernalia were seized from the residential unit.

The police added that preliminary investigations revealed that all five people mentioned above tested positive for controlled drugs. Investigations into all 88 arrested suspects are ongoing.

Superintendent Lee Pin How, commanding officer of CNB Enforcement ‘F’ and ‘L’ Division, warned of the impact of drug abuse.

“Drugs have a devastating impact on individuals, families and communities – abusers are robbed of the opportunity to live their lives to the fullest, relationships are destroyed, and the larger community pays a hefty price in dealing with the wide-ranging consequences that drug abuse can bring,” he said.

“CNB will continue to persevere in safeguarding a safe and drug-free society for our people and our children.”
