SINGAPORE — A Scoot passenger has complained that she was forced to spend the night sleeping on the floor at Changi Airport with her toddler and partner, after flight cancellations in Athens meant that their flights home to Greece were postponed.

Ms Irene Caselli tweeted about her experience soon after midnight on Tuesday (Jan 25).

The family's Scoot flight was cancelled due to a snowstorm in Athens. Ms Caselli said that they were unable to leave Changi Airport because of Covid-19 rules.

TODAY has tried to contact her to get more details such as the time of her cancelled flight but she has not responded.

In her tweets, Ms Caselli claimed that she was not given any alternatives by Scoot or its parent company Singapore Airlines (SIA) “besides sleeping on the floor” with her toddler until her rescheduled flight on Thursday.

In response, SIA sent a tweet explaining that all airport hotels were fully booked at the time that their flight was cancelled and noted that Scoot later reached out to her to advise the family that a hotel room had been found for them.

SIA said that "we sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused" in the tweet.

In Ms Caselli's post, she said that she was provided with a room at an airport hotel on Tuesday afternoon, after being stranded for around 17 hours.

In response to TODAY’s queries, Scoot said: “Scoot flights TR722 (Singapore-Athens-Berlin) and TR723 (Berlin-Athens-Singapore), which were scheduled to depart on Jan 25, 2022, were cancelled due to adverse weather conditions in Athens.''

Affected customers were booked on the next available Scoot flights. Scoot said that it had reached out to the affected customers to provide the necessary support and assistance.

"The health and safety of our staff and customers remain our priority, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused due to adverse weather conditions," it added.

"We seek the understanding of our customers whose travels plans have been impacted by unforeseen, adverse weather conditions, and we will continue to render the necessary assistance.”
