SINGAPORE — The Ministry of Health (MOH) on Thursday (April 16) announced 728 more cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of infections here to 4,427.

It is the highest single-day jump in infections here, the previous high being the 447 cases that were reported a day before.

In its media statement, MOH said that 654 of the 728 cases are work permit holders residing in dormitories and 26 are work permit holders residing outside dormitories.

None of the new cases were imported, while 48 are from the local community.

MOH also identified five new clusters of infections. They are all linked to workers' dormitories, namely The Leo dormitory located at 23 Kaki Bukit Road 3 and Westlite Mandai located at 34 Mandai Estate.

The other three are factory-converted dormitories, one at 17 Sungei Kadut Street 4, one at Grandwork Building located at 7 Sungei Kadut Street 3, and SJ Dormitory located at 180 Woodlands Industrial Park E5.

The ministry said: “The number of new cases among work permit holders residing in dormitories has increased significantly, in line with our continued efforts to actively test and isolate the infected workers.”

It added that of the newly confirmed cases, 81 per cent of them are linked to known clusters.

The health ministry also said that the cluster at S-11 Dormitory in Punggol had 979 confirmed cases so far, making it the largest cluster of infections here.
