SINGAPORE — Two Singaporean men, aged 82 and 81, on Monday (April 27) became the 13th and 14th persons to die from complications due to Covid-19.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) identified them as Cases 1595 and 9682 respectively.

Case 1595, the 82-year-old, was diagnosed on April 8, while Case 9682 tested positive on April 20.

“The National Centre for Infectious Diseases has reached out to their families and is extending assistance to them,” MOH said in a press release.

Seven new clusters of infections have emerged here:

• Acacia Home, a welfare home for destitute men at 30 Admiralty Street

• Hai Leck Engineering, a company at 12 Tuas Drive providing engineering and construction services to industries

• Lingjack Dormitory at 1 Woodlands Terrace

• Four sites at 9 Gul Street 1, 3 Senoko Link, 44 Toh Guan Road East and 2 Woodlands Industrial Park E1

MOH said on Monday that there were 799 new cases of Covid-19 here.

Of these, 18 were from the community, with 14 being Singaporeans or permanent residents and four being work pass holders.

MOH noted that the number of new cases in the community has gone down, from an average of 29 cases a day in the week before, to an average of 20 a day in the past week.

The number of cases in the community that have unknown sources of infection has also dropped, from an average of 19 cases a day in the week before, to an average of 13 a day in the past week.

“We will continue to closely monitor these numbers, as well as the cases detected through our surveillance programme,” it said.

Among the 799 cases reported, 764 are foreign workers residing in dormitories and 17 are not staying in dormitories.

“The main increase on Monday continues to be for work permit holders residing in dormitories, where we are picking up many more cases because of extensive testing,” MOH said.

“Most of these cases have a mild illness and are being monitored in the community isolation facilities or general ward of our hospitals. None of them is in the intensive care unit.”

There were no imported cases of Covid-19 on Monday.

In all, 1,095 people have fully recovered and have been discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, including the 35 discharged on Monday.

There are still 1,451 patients who are in hospitals and most are stable or improving. Twenty patients are in critical condition under intensive care.

To date, 11,863 patients are isolated and cared for at community facilities. They have mild symptoms or are clinically well but still test positive for the disease
