SINGAPORE — The number of reported dengue cases has declined for the second week running, after rising to a high of 479 cases three weeks ago.

According to figures from the Health Ministry, 337 people fell ill with the mosquito-borne disease last week, compared to 402 the week before. As of 3.30pm yesterday (Jan 26), 41 more cases have been detected since Sunday.

This brings the total number of dengue cases reported this year – including the last three days of December – to 1,696.

A 59 year-old woman succumbed to the disease earlier this month.

As of last Friday, there were 56 active dengue clusters in Singapore. 10 areas, including Bartley, Yishun and Balestier, were defined as “high-risk” with 10 or more cases.

Singapore is currently experiencing its worst dengue outbreak, with more than 22,000 people infected since the epidemic started last year.
