Driver, 62, rams into 5 motorcycles, crashes into pillar at HDB void deck in Hougang

SINGAPORE — A 62-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle at a Housing and Development Board (HDB) car park in Hougang, ramming into five stationary motorcycles before crashing into a void deck pillar on Sunday (March 21) morning.

The side of the pillar that was hit by the car was damaged to the point that its underlying bricks were showing. Chunks of the bricks had broken off and were seen strewn on the ground.

SINGAPORE — A 62-year-old driver lost control of his vehicle at a Housing and Development Board (HDB) car park in Hougang, ramming into five stationary motorcycles before crashing into a void deck pillar on Sunday (March 21) morning. 

The police said in a statement on Monday that they were alerted to the accident at 9.26am on Sunday and the driver was conscious when he was taken to the hospital.

The incident, which involved a grey Toyota Prius, took place at the car park near Blk 542 Hougang Avenue 8, police said. 

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said that the driver was taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Photos shared on Facebook page Roads.sg showed the aftermath of the accident.

The side of the pillar that was hit by the car was damaged to the point that its underlying bricks were showing. Chunks of the bricks had broken off and were seen strewn on the ground. 

A utility pipe that was affixed to the pillar was also dislodged and was seen lying on the floor of the void deck.

Investigations are ongoing.
