SINGAPORE — Some stations along the North-South Line will close at about 11pm on some Fridays and Saturdays from January to March 2020 to facilitate maintenance and renewal works, rail operator SMRT said on Friday (Dec 20).

The affected stations are: The four stations between Novena and Bishan (Novena, Toa Payoh, Braddell and Bishan) and the three stations between Yishun and Yio Chu Kang (Yishun, Khatib and Yio Chu Kang).

From Jan 3 to 11, the stations between Novena and Bishan will close at 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, SMRT said in a media statement.

On some Fridays and Saturdays in February and all Fridays and Saturdays in March, the stations between Yishun and Yio Chu Kang will close at around 11pm.

The longer engineering hours as a result of the early closure will primarily be used to carry out the installation of 22kV power cables as part of the power supply system renewal works, SMRT said.

Railway noise barriers will also be installed where feasible in February and March.

In January, commuters travelling between Ang Mo Kio and Newton stations may use the shuttle bus Service 9 as an alternative form of travel.

For the early closures in February and March, commuters travelling between Canberra and Ang Mo Kio stations may take the shuttle bus Service 10.

The buses will serve designated bus stops near the affected MRT stations.

As the timing of the last trains departing from each station during this period will vary, SMRT advised commuters to check the departure times at the affected MRT stations or on SMRT Trains’ website and social media platforms.

It added that more time will be needed to travel between the affected MRT stations using the shuttle bus services.
