SINGAPORE — In dramatic photos and video footage that defied belief, a 65-year-old was saved from falling to his death after his pants were caught by a clothes rack outside a HDB flat.

The man was found dangling outside the eighth-floor kitchen window of a flat at Block 410 in Tampines on Monday. The police said they received a call about the incident at about 3.29pm.

Rescuers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) brought the man to safety using a combined platform ladder and sent him to Changi General Hospital “in a conscious and stable condition”. The combined platform ladder is vehicle affixed with a hydraulic ladder and a “cherry picker” that the SCDF uses for high-rise operations.

Little is known about the man, whom police have arrested for attempted suicide. Investigations are ongoing, said the police.
