SINGAPORE — Home appliances brand Electrolux will be giving away up to S$900 in cheques and vouchers to people who bought any of the four potentially faulty models of its glass gas-cooker hobs, after the authorities issued a safety warning against the products last week.

In a statement on Tuesday (Jan 10), the company also extended the product recall to include two more models, which the cheques and vouchers will also cover. Last Friday, national standards agency Spring Singapore warned that four models of Electrolux glass gas-cooker hobs could potentially explode. Spring said that it received reports from consumers of glass shattering and small explosions when the affected cooker hobs were in use. In one case, a user was scalded.

The four model numbers in the initial Spring advisory are EGT7637EGP, EGT7637CKP, EGT7627CKP and EGT9637CKP.

As a precautionary measure, Electrolux voluntarily extended the product recall on Tuesday to include two of its Flexi Glass Gas Hob models: EGT9038CKP and EGT8028CKP.

The company reiterated in its statement that this latest product recall was “not a case of a product defect as the product models are certified and compliant”. Customers who opt to return the EGT7637EGP, EGT7637CKP, EGT7627CKP or EGT8028CKP models will get S$700 as well as a S$100 goodwill voucher. Those who return the

EGT9637CKP or EGT9038CKP models will get S$800 and a S$100 goodwill voucher.

Another option for affected customers is to wait until April for a replacement product. Then, they will get a S$100 goodwill voucher and either receive a portable induction hob and a replacement model, or a S$200 cheque and a replacement model.

Electrolux is meeting with property developers to work out the most efficient solution for consumers who bought apartments with kitchens fitted with any of the affected models, but these consumers may also contact the company directly. Affected customers may email customer-care.sin [at] electrolux.com or call its customer service unit at 6727 3613 or 6727 3699 for enquiries.
