Extra reformative training for youth who used expletives on judge
SINGAPORE — A young offender who used expletives on a district judge was yesterday ordered to undergo additional reformative training.
SINGAPORE — A young offender who used expletives on a district judge was yesterday ordered to undergo additional reformative training.
Lee Wen Jie, 20, was sentenced on March 25 this year by District Judge Lee Poh Choo for previous offences.
When he heard that he was to be sent for reformative training, Lee started scolding the judge and uttered expletives in the Hokkien dialect.
For this, he could have been jailed up to a year and fined a maximum of S$5,000.
District Judge Siva Shanmugam yesterday said Lee’s offence was a “significant one” and warranted heavy punishment.
But he noted that if a jail term were to be imposed, it would undo the reformative training Lee had already undergone.
The judge said it was more expedient for him to continue with the training, with effect from yesterday.
This means that Lee’s time in reformative training will be increased by at least another six months.
