SINGAPORE — A fire broke out at a Housing and Development Board (HDB) flat along Jalan Bukit Merah on Tuesday (Feb 23), leaving two people injured.

In a Facebook post, the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it was alerted at 6.50am to a fire at a 7th-floor unit at Block 105 Jalan Bukit Merah.

“The fire involved the contents of a living room and was extinguished by the SCDF using two compressed air foam backpacks and a fire extinguisher,” it said.

Two people were taken to Singapore General Hospital with burn injuries.

As a precautionary measure, about 20 residents from neighbouring flats were evacuated by the police.

Preliminary investigations showed that the fire may have originated from a personal mobility device (PMD).

Since July last year, the Land Transport Authority has required all PMD users to comply with the UL2272 fire safety standard.

The SCDF added that owners of non-UL2272 devices are strongly encouraged to dispose of their devices at appropriate recyclers.
