Fire engulfs building in Geylang; operation ongoing
SINGAPORE — Firefighters from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) are fighting a blaze in Geylang on Wednesday night (June 19).
A video posted on social media showed a large fire blazing through what appears to be a shophouse unit.
SINGAPORE — A massive fire engulfed two shophouses in Geylang Lorong 14 on Wednesday evening (June 19).
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it was first alerted to the fire at 8.35pm, and it deployed 12 emergency vehicles and about 70 firefighters to the scene.
“At the height of the operations, 3 handheld jets and an aerial monitor were utilised to mitigate the fire,” said the SCDF.
In a Facebook update at 10.43pm, the SCDF said that there were no reported injuries from the fire, which involved the contents of “two shophouses at number 67 and 69” at Geylang Lorong 14.
A video posted on social media showed a large fire blazing through what appears to be a terraced house, with sirens blaring in the background.
Police officers were seen cordoning off the area as members of the public took videos of the fire.
