SINGAPORE — Commuters here can now use their Fitbit devices to pay for bus and train rides, the wearables brand said in a press release on Tuesday (May 14).
The service is currently open to OCBC and United Overseas Bank Mastercard holders, who can save their credit or debit cards on their Fitbit Pay Wallet and tap the devices — worn on their wrists — on fare readers.
Fitbit’s e-wallet is available on all Ionic, Versa and Charge 3 models, added the release.
The move is part of the Land Transport Authority's SimplyGo initiative, which allows commuters to use contactless bank cards for public transport, removing the need to carry a separate travel card or make any top-ups before travelling.
Fitbit’s regional director for South-east Asia, Hong Kong and Taiwan, Mr Louis Lye, said: “Singaporeans have always embraced new technologies that make life simpler and more convenient, and we are glad to be a part of the SimplyGo initiative that takes us one step closer towards a cashless society.”
