SINGAPORE — Family members, friends and army mates of the late full-time national serviceman Dave Lee Han Xuan turned up in force at his wake on Saturday (May 5) to pay their last respects and send him off.

Corporal First Class (CFC) Lee died on April 30 after spending more than a week in intensive care at the Changi General Hospital (CGH).

The 19-year-old Guardsman from the 1st Battalion Singapore Guards had shown signs of heat injury after an 8km fast march in Bedok Camp at 8.35am on April 18.

A crowd of over 50 people had gathered at the wake near his Jurong East family home on Saturday afternoon, prior to a military funeral for the deceased soldier. About 40 personnel from the Singapore Armed Forces were also at the scene.

The former Jurong Junior College student enlisted for National Service on January 5, and completed his Basic Military Training on March 11, according to information on his Facebook account.

He turned 19 on April 20, two days after he was admitted to the hospital.

Mindef also disclosed that a separate investigation by a Committee of Inquiry will be chaired by a senior official from the Ministry of Education.

Some of CFC Lee’s relatives had demanded a “full investigation” from the SAF regarding the youth’s death. On Thursday, two of his aunts also appealed to his army mates to tell investigators “the full truth”.

However, CFC Lee’s parents had said it was too early to comment on the incident.
