SINGAPORE — Commuters in Singapore may now book rides with Gojek, after the Indonesian ride-hailing firm extended its beta phase to cover the whole island on Thursday (Jan 10).
Previously, only customers with DBS and POSB banks could access the mobile application during Gojek’s initial beta, or prototype, launch on Nov 29 last year.
In a press release on Thursday (Jan 10), Gojek said that commuters may now register and immediately get access to its services via its iOS or Android app.
First-time riders will receive two S$5 vouchers, Gojek added, which they can use for two rides within two weeks of signing up.
Gojek said that it will continue to fine-tune its app and user experience, based on feedback received from the increased number of drivers and riders expected to use its services during this “enhanced beta phase”.
Some of the changes Gojek made after its initial beta launch include a better routing system for “more accurate and quicker routes” to improve users’ waiting times.
It also added an in-app “pause” function that allows drivers to “go offline” and stop new trip requests while they are completing their current trip.
This was in response to drivers’ requests to take breaks in between trips, Gojek said.
The app is now able to show areas with high demand so that drivers can “pick up more riders and complete more trips”.
Gojek's president Andre Soelistyo said: “We are committed to bringing choice back to the ride-hailing market in Singapore... Through our gradual roll-out of the app, we are ensuring that Gojek meets Singapore’s needs and will stand the test of time.”
