SINGAPORE — The government’s policies set a strong foundation for quality growth and an inclusive society, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who also emphasised that a healthy economy is necessary to create jobs.
He said this at his address this morning at the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) 57th council installation ceremony, where the SCCCI welcomed new Council President Thomas Chua. Mr Lee officiated at the ceremony where Mr Chua took over the position from Nominated Member of Parliament Teo Siong Seng.
Mr Lee acknowledged the difficulties businesses are facing with the tightening supply of foreign workers, but said that the government is doing its best to help companies make the transition — starting with the Transition Support Package announced in this year’s budget.
He said that the outlook for Singapore businesses still remains bright as Singapore has a well-educated workforce, are well-located in a dynamic region and continue to be attractive to foreign investors, while local businesses, including SMEs, have upgraded themselves and seized opportunities overseas.
