SINGAPORE — About 30 people living around a landed property that caught fire on Monday (Aug 17) afternoon had to be evacuated by firefighters.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said that it was first alerted to the fire at a house on 4 Clacton Road, off Mountbatten Road, at about 5.10pm.

One person had escaped from the premises before SCDF arrived at the scene.

When the firefighters reached the site, the fire was “well alight and burning through the roof of the house” and they had to put on breathing apparatus before proceeding cautiously to reach the seat of the fire, SCDF said.

This was challenging because of the smoke-logged conditions and falling debris, it added.

The police then evacuated about 30 people from the neighbouring houses as a precautionary measure.

Eventually, the fire was extinguished with two water jets.

There were no reported injuries, SCDF said.

The fire was linked to contents on the second floor of the house, SCDF added.
