SINGAPORE — Within a month of working for her Singaporean employer, Rike Kusnul Kotimah stole S$50 in cash and took a video of the employer’s four-year-old son changing clothes.

The Indonesian domestic worker then published the clip, in which the boy’s private parts could be seen, on her TikTok account.

For her actions earlier this year, she was sentenced on Tuesday (July 19) to three months’ jail for voyeurism and an extra week behind bars for theft.

She pleaded guilty to both offences. Another charge of distributing an intimate recording was taken into consideration for sentencing.

The court heard that Rike, 25, began working for her employer’s household on March 11 this year.

Her employer told her that if she found money lying around the landed home or while she was doing laundry, she should hand over the money to them directly.

She then asked to be transferred to another employer soon after that.

When Rike's employer agreed to the request on April 14, she checked Rike’s iPhone photo gallery to ensure that there were no pictures of her household.

The employer then saw that Rike had photographed a S$50 note placed in front of the employer’s husband’s pants more than a week ago.

She was questioned before admitting to taking the photo while doing laundry because she had never seen Singapore dollar notes before this.

She then claimed to have put the S$50 note back into the pants' pocket, before returning to the couple’s bedroom when no one else was home and stealing the note. She spent the money on her personal expenses.

The employer filed a police report.

During investigations, police officers discovered that Rike had taken a video of her employer’s four-year-old son while changing him.

The video clip, which was at least 18 seconds in length, captured her changing the boy’s pants and exposing his genitals. She claimed that she recorded the video as a memento.

She then uploaded the video on her TikTok account with a caption in Bahasa Indonesia, which translated to:

“Conditions for a domestic worker to be successful: Personal necessities borne by the employer, food... borne by employer, no day off, no Shopee, whatever things I can request from employer... go back to Indonesia with a bag full of money, not a bag full of dirty clothes!”

For theft, Rike could have been jailed for up to seven years and fined.

Anyone convicted of voyeurism can be jailed for up to two years, fined, caned, or receive any combination of the three punishments. However, women cannot be caned under Singapore’s laws.
