SINGAPORE — A 14-year-old girl sustained a cut beneath her right eye while playing at Jewel Changi Airport's Mirror Maze, making it the second such incident at the airport’s latest attraction within a week.

The maze, one of the attractions at the Canopy Park, was open to the public on June 10.

Last Friday (June 14), a woman sustained a deep cut on her hand after tripping at the Sky Nets attraction, which is also at Jewel’s Canopy Park.

Jewel, the airport's new retail complex, said in a statement on Thursday (June 20) that the latest incident happened at around 5.15pm on Wednesday.

“First aid was immediately administered by the attraction ranger on duty when the guest discovered the injury upon exiting the maze,” its spokesperson said.

The girl’s aunt, Ms Susan Goh, took to Facebook on Wednesday to warn parents about the need for caution while letting their children play at Jewel’s various attractions.

In her post, she included an image showing the cut beneath her niece’s right eye, which Ms Goh said needed nine stitches to close up.

She added that her niece was uncertain where within the maze she had cut herself, and that there were only six children playing at the time.

“Parents and children, please be extra careful,” she said.

The mirror maze at Canopy Park is the world’s first mirror maze within a garden setting. Created by British maze designer Adrian Fisher, it features plants hanging overhead, providing dappled light into the maze.

As for last Friday’s incident, Jewel’s spokesperson said then that attractions at the park have undergone “numerous safety tests including certification of material used” before they were certified safe for operations.

Jewel said that it has been monitoring its ground operations closely, including refining operational procedures, since the opening of the Canopy Park on June 10.

In light of Wednesday’s accident, its spokesperson urged all guests to “exercise personal safety and adhere to safety instructions while having fun” at the attractions.
