SINGAPORE – Veteran actress and host Sharon Au will be leaving Mediacorp next month after 22 years of service, said the national broadcaster and Ms Au in an announcement on Thursday (Jan 4).

The 42-year-old will be leaving on Feb 1 to pursue other challenges in France.

“After 22 years of service to Mediacorp, I have decided to embark on a new professional challenge,” said the actress in a statement.

“It was a hard decision for me to resign, having dedicated more than half of my life to Mediacorp. The journey has been varied and interesting – I spent 10 years as an artiste, five years studying under a company scholarship for which I am eternally grateful, and the last seven in fashion and online portals management.

“With my resignation, I will be leaving the world of entertainment and fashion to pursue another path.”

A former airline stewardess, Ms Au joined Mediacorp in the 1990s, where she was best known for co-hosting variety programme City Beat with Kym Ng and Bryan Wong. She also picked up multiple awards for hosting, winning the Star Awards for Best Variety Show Host for four consecutive years from 2000 to 2003.

Ms Au is the lead of Mediacorp’s fashion community portal styleXstyle, and she is also the publisher of fashion title ELLE Singapore.

In a statement on Thursday, Mediacorp said: “Sharon has become a familiar face to our audiences over the years and she has demonstrated her talent, passion and genuine curiosity in diverse areas of the business.

“We’re sure she will continue to do well and surprise and delight those around her. Sharon has all our very best wishes as she embarks on new adventures.”
