SINGAPORE — A lost dog that wandered off and ended up 1km away from home was reunited with its owner with the assistance of helpful staff members from transport operator SMRT.
Apollo, a brown mongrel, took a stroll outside after escaping from home in the wee hours of Sunday (April 2).
The canine’s owner Karthik Nathan shared on Facebook that Apollo most likely jumped the fence when the door was left ajar and ended up at Buona Vista MRT Station.
Fortunately, the lost dog was spotted by a commuter on the ground floor of the station and an SMRT employee was alerted.
The employee snapped a picture of Apollo chilling — not the least bit perturbed by its misplacement.
Mr Nathan said that SMRT staff members took Apollo to their office, where it waited in a "well-behaved manner", before being picked up. It is unclear how long the employees were looking after it.
Mr Ng Chan Cheok, SMRT's head of Circle Line, said in response to TODAY's queries that the dog was reunited with its owner after Ms Archanavalli Sagedevan, an assistant station manager, managed to get in touch with Mr Nathan through the contact number listed on the dog's collar tag.
“We are proud of our staff for going the extra mile to reunite the dog — ‘Apollo’ — with its owner," Mr Ng added.
Mr Nathan took to Facebook to thank the SMRT workers for their help: “Special shout out to Syahril and Archana of SMRT for taking care of Apollo.”
It seems like this is not the first escape by Apollo, according to reactions to Mr Nathan's post.
One Facebook user, who seems to be acquainted with Mr Nathan and privy to Apollo's pattern of wandering away from home, wrote: "He ran away again!"
Another advised: "Apollo's adventures continue… dude, keep that door closed."
Online users also praised the SMRT employees for keeping Apollo safe.
TODAY has reached out to Mr Nathan for comment.
