Make the family first with simple gestures, urges rebranded council

SINGAPORE — With everyone busy with their own daily activities, families today often find it hard to spend time together.

SINGAPORE — With everyone busy with their own daily activities, families today often find it hard to spend time together.

However, simple gestures such as sending a text message or two each day could go a long way towards making a family member feel appreciated, said Ms Anita Fam, a member of the Families for Life (FFL) Council — the new name for the National Family Council.

As it announced its name change, along with a new logo, the organisation encouraged families to spend more time regularly — and not only on festive or special occasions. The FFL Council said the rebranding reflects its evolving approach and renewed focus to connect and build strong and resilient Singaporean families.

Ms Fam said: “The world is changing so much and we need to find a way to get people to start thinking and talking about (making) their families first.”

As such, the FFL Council is out to engage the public in conversations about the family regularly.

Its Chairman, Mr Ching Wei Hong, said the council will create platforms for the public to share ideas and experiences about improving family time.

“I hope that Singaporeans will embrace the notion of families for life. Everyone is part of a family and your family members are for life. Apart from large-scale family-centred events, we want to boost touchpoints to enhance family life through a 365-day approach,” he added.

The FFL Council plans to step up efforts to get people to talk about families through social media platforms, and kick-start conversations about various developments that have added pressure to family life.

Apart from the online conversations, the FFL Council has also lined up several events for families in the coming months, such as the National Family Celebrations, Singapore Parenting Congress and the Marriage Convention.
