SINGAPORE — Commuters heading to-and-from Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore or Marina South Pier can soon travel via MRT to their destinations, with a new station set to open this Sunday (Nov 23).
The Marina South Pier MRT station is the newest station on the North-South Line. It is located right next to Marina South Pier and there will be a sheltered linkway for passengers heading to the cruise centre.
Train services to the station will run at approximately 15-minute intervals. During peak hours on weekday mornings, intervals will be cut to approximately 8 to 12 minutes.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) said it will work with SMRT to improve train frequencies during expected periods of high-passenger numbers, such as when cruise ships call at the cruise centre or during the annual Kusu pilgrimage season.
The LTA said it will also work with SMRT to review train operations in the future based on the ridership for the station and developments near the station.
Construction of the station started in 2009 and was completed this year. The LTA and SMRT have been carrying out train testing over the last three months.
